CIBT Partners with Project Management Institute, Being Chapter
Capital Alliance Group’s subsidiary, CIBT Canadian Institute of Business and Technology Corporation (CIBT), and Project Management Institute, Beijing Chapter (PMI) will jointly deliver project management training under an agreement with the Shandong Provincial Government Employee Education Office.
According to the agreement, CIBT and PMI will each contribute program curriculum and provide qualified instructors. The first seven-day session will begin in December, 2001, and will target project managers at many of the largest state-owned companies in the Chinese province of Shandong. This project marks the first time the project management program has been offered outside of Beijing.
Shandong is one of China’s most populous, rapidly developing and economically productive provinces. Over the first five months of 2001, foreign contractual investments in Shandong totalled $2.11-billion (U.S), representing a 23-per-cent increase over same period the previous year. Additionally, over the past several years the province has attracted many of the world’s largest international corporations. China has a population of 1.3 billion and is one of the world’s largest economies, growing at 8-per-cent per year. According to Yahoo News, China will join the World Trade Organization at its annual ministerial meeting this month, which promises to make China a more open nation and create thousands of new jobs.
“We are delighted to be working with PMI, an American-based professional association recognized globally as the distinguished leader in project management standards, education and certification,” said CIBT president, Charles Chen. “Delivering this program directly to the Shandong Provincial Government, with more than 10 million employees, provides us with a market of considerable size. Additionally, partnering with a local government gives us an important foothold in another region of China and positions us for future growth based on the growing demand in China for project management skills.”
Founded in 1969 and headquartered in the United States, PMI today is the world’s leading not-for-profit project management professional association, with over 80,000 members in 125 countries worldwide. PMI operates numerous programs, including professional standards, certification, research, publications, education and training. PMI chapters around the world advance its mission and objectives by promoting project management professionalism within local businesses, universities and professional organizations in the chapter area.
